PIT
BOSSES
We've spoken
to a lot of gamblers who talk about enco with pit bosses.
These players imagine that everyone in the pit, the area
behind the tables, watching the action, is a pit boss. But
that's not so. They are floormen, who work under the pit
boss.
A pit may consist
of six craps tables or nine blackjack tables placed in an
oval arrangement so that the men inside that area can supervise
the action easily. Some casinos have one pit for each game,
while the giant houses may have several casino blackjack
pits spread all over the casino.
Other casinos may mix
up a pit, placing craps tables and blackjack tables together,
but the casinos that do this have foolish men in charge,
for each game requires its own expertise and it's nearly
impossible to properly supervise a craps game and a blackjack
game at the same time. The action is very different, the
players are different, and, therefore, the supervision must
be different.

RECEIVE
PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT
Now that he's introduced himself, his play will be watched.
As mentioned before, he must play at the amount and with the
frequency required by the particular casino. Nothing is etched
in stone, however, and casino personnel will be flexible.
If they require $100 play for four hours, but the gambler
drops $3,000 in thirty minutes and quits for the day, they're
not going to hold that against him. Casino personnel understand
that a quick loss may mean the end of play for a while. Basically,
what they want is someone who plays steadily at fairly high
stakes. It may be $50 play in one casino, or even $25 play
in another, to qualify for free RFB. There are all kinds and
sizes of casinos.
If you go to a casino
and want a free meal, for example, speak to a floorman or
someone in the pit and ask him or her to watch your play.
If you are unsure of how long and at what level you must
play to qualify for the meal, ask that also. You might be
told that a $5 blackjack table, for example, is sufficient,
if you play for two hours. If you are going to p a couple
of hours anyway, fine. Go ahead and play, your free meal.
But if you want to play out $100 and at best you'll be there
for thirty minutes, don't change pattern of play just to
get a free meal. That meal may to be very expensive indeed.
