reason that this simple inequality is greater than
anything Newton or Einstein came up with is that it
answers the most fundamental question we face as poker
players: whether to stay in a hand or fold.
And the answer is immediately available because we've
transformed our expected value equation into a form
that is very easy to use at the poker table. Now all
we have to do to figure out if calling a bet is good
for us is to compare W/L with P/B. Those two ratios
are called odds. Specifically, W/L, the ratio of our
chance of winning to our chance of losing, is called
2cin.ning odd-s. And P/B, the ratio of the current
pot size to the bet required to call, is called pot
odds. You can express odds in several different ways:
A/B, A:B, or the phrase "A-to-B" are all
the same thing.
